I am thinking about using a blog. Most of the RE blogs I looked at are separate from the web site or look different. That does not seem right from a marketing standpoint. What do others think?

Blogs are a great way to increase your exposure on the internet. It is also a great way to build content on your website. We use them to advertise properties on the internet. In addition, we have them connected to our site and use that blog as a current events real estate section for our area.
Used correctly, Blogs are a realtors best friend.
Yes definatley, blogs are the way to go. We offer them on our site virtualrealestatemall.com we are taking free memberships now. The site is growing fast.

I agree blogs are good but many blogs are not on the agent's web site or have a different design. I think it would be better if the blog looked on the agent site and looked the same as the rest of the site. Any opinions?

You can get wordpress or some other blogging software and intergrate it into your site. I use wordpress, and I could (although I really haven't) customize the blog as much as I want. Check it out
www.teamgreenerealty.com (http://www.teamgreenerealty.com)
look at the page above, and then click on the link and look at the blog. It isn't the exact same look, but it has some continuity.

Coffee cup has good blog software also. I am currently in the process of putting one on our site. You can down load a free trial of the software at their website. It also allows you to integrate it into your site design.

You can also put a blog on a subdomain of your web site (i.e. http://blog.yoursite.com). Since search engines currently treat sub domains as unique domains, you don't have to worry about any cross linking problems.

I assume you want to insert a template based blog like Wordpress into your existing HTML page. If you want to display a blog page within that web page you can use <iframe>. You can place the <iframe> within a table.
If you're looking to just include the headline snippets from the blog on your web page, most blogs have a feature for RSS. You can then pull the RSS feed into any part of your web page.

Do <iframes> present the same Search Engine problems that other frame pages present?

As long as you use valid HTML and label your target correctly there should be no problem.
While the RSS is the best way to include your blog, there is another way to accomplish the task that I had forgot to discuss earlier. You can also use server side includes to pull the content into the page.

Yes, blogs are a great marketing tool especially if they are on your site. If you wanted to add a blog to your website you would have to know what operating system and programming languages your hosting company will support. (Windows or Linux OS and will they run asp, .net, php...)
For example, the blog here feliciarowe.com was written in asp.net c# programming language (windows server). You should be able to find a blog script at hotscripts.com that would let you put a blog on your own site. If your hosting company is using windows servers, you should look for an asp or asp.net blog. If your website is on a linux server, I would look for a php blog. Your webmaster should be able to help you more if it gets to technical for you.

I have a site with a WP blog as a sub-directory. I kinda have 2 sitemaps, one for the main site and one for the blog. Is this OK? Or, do I need to have a single sitemap for the site?

many of them are very "cheesy".
it's just dead space out there. in order to seperate your site form others, it takes ALOT of work. you've got to be at least a little savvy with websites or willing to work at it to learn it.

Blogs are good but I think forums are better.
With a blog you have to keep posting on it. A forum is open to everybody to create valuable content.

Blogs are great and dont need to look like your website...the material on your blog should be different otherwise you are just creating a duplicate of your website

To spread any business a blog is really helpful. You can update your blog with newest deals and real estate news and reviews so that you get constant free traffic from search engines.

I like for the blog to look different from the rest of the website but also like it to be incorporated into the url of the site. We incorporated a word press blog into the domain here http://www.columbushomeshow.com/wordpress but we changed the header so that the top navigation links back to the main pages of the website.

Yeah amking a blog is great and for additional blogs mostly ranks from the Search Engines because you can update the contents weekly and more frequently.

Another thing that should be done to make the most benefit out of a blog is to use social bookmarking services. Please bookmark your blog in as many social bookmarking sites as possible. This would be great in generating good relevant traffic to your blog and then to your site.

if you have a blog and site of RE then you can place links of the site in Blogs. Google are giving more higher priority to blogs than sites because of daily updates on blogs.

On the home page you can install a widget from google to search specific websites.
It is easier to BLOG news related items than add page content (news) to the website.
The google widget searches only the websites I have and my blog.
People can instantly find what their topic of interest is.

Blog is one way to promote your website. One tip, you can send you articles in your blog to any ezines. But be sure that your articles are atleast 250 words per article.

Another tip for blogs is to make sure you are constantly adding content. It takes time to build traffic so you need to make sure you keep users coming back.

A blog is one thing getting traffic is another. If you don't have a plan to get traffic I wouldn't start a blog.
Why not market on someones else's blog that gets great traffic. Nobody wants to hear the crickets.

I will try to get on some popular blogs - I guess I need to do that before starting one to see what they are all doing
