Has anyone noticed a new website suddenly appearing out of nowhere for a keyword search as #1 on MSN.com. I have had two instances in the last month where a website with almost no unique content or backlinks suddenly appear as the #1 listing for a key word search, and as soon as I sent an email to MSN search about this, the website was off the rankings the next day. I have been getting a lot of emails from companies that say they have proprietary software to get youa #1 search engine listing for certain key words and have ignored them. Do some companies actually have a way to get their clients in #1 position in a natural search without going through all the hard work everyone elso goes through?

Some methods of cloaking still work. However, I would be wary of any company that guarantees any type of rankings (we don't). Any "SEO company" that has to spam for business is only after your money - not your best interests.

Search engines are constantly changing their algos (see the havoc that the latest Google update has caused - I hear a lot of small online retailers claiming they will be out of business in a month).

Algos aside, what if a search engine changes their business model. Maybe Yahoo suddenly decides that they will populate the first three pages of SERP's with only Site Match clients. Yeah - there is a 99.99% chance that this will never happen. But you never know what is around the next corner with these SE's.

MSN may have responded to your email, or it may have been coincidental. Sites get filtered out or penalized all of the time.

As I have been advised by many people, including the editors of this forum, there are no secrets. Just a lot of hard work developing good content and working hard developing a lot of links to your site. One suggestion that was given me that was very helpful was that because my site was a template site, all of the pages that I had added since I had my site all had the same title to them since they used a default name unless changed. When I went back and changed the titles using the custom option it seems the search engines are now ranking those pages and their are coming up directly on the search results.

That has happend to me in Yahoo. When my site was new, I joined the Yahoo Directory. Boom #1 ranking, then after a week I went to # 70. Now I am #30. Go figure!

A new site can appear on no 1 without backlinks if there is no competition on that keyword. If competition is very less then we can optimize a site with only on page optimization. SEO is very hard work and it want a lot of time to optimize a site with competitive keywords. There is no software which can optimize your site without any hard work. Software can help only little bit. So be aware from those companies because copanies say that for only getting a project from client. If there is no competion or less copetition on a keyword I also can guarantee you for ranking on the search engines within 7 days. :)

MSN has been doing a lot of work on the search engine in the past few months and continue to do so.

There are ways you can get your or other pages up to the #1 spots even for some of the more competitive keywords.

I'll actually write a tutorial about it and post it on our website. I'll post a link to the tutorial as soon as it's up. It will be posted in our tutorials section a link to it can be found in my sig.

I think it is better to try to improve your site by making changes more often rather than a big change in one go and then no changes for a long time. The search engine bots may visit your site once in a few days, sometimes, very day. They will visit your site more frequently if they see your frequent content changes.

Live is a little more stable than the old msn, but it still a yo-yo for results. New content helps, but then again, so does spammy links!

Mike - what kind of traffic are you seeing from the MSN rankings? Per site, per day, how many visitors are you getting?
