Oh you guys, I was mortified! Turns out they are a hoax.

They are, as you say, great "storm" photos.

(Just not Katrina.)

That is why I wrote what I wrote. A friend emailed those to me well before Katrina, but I didn't want to bust your bubble. Besides, regardless of when they were taken, they ARE awesome storm photos!
