New Reputation System
OK, guys! I am taking my chances here jeopardizing the peace

But it had to be done
If you look at the top right hand corner of anyone's post, you will see the legal scale. It pops up a new window when clicked and allows you to approve or disapprove of someone's post.
Basically, if someone has helped you, you give them a good point, if someone made no sense, you give them a red. Everyone starts at +10 and when someone goes below a certain grade like -10, they will no longer be able to post live links
So anyways, lemme know if it's not a good idea and I will deactivate.
Mike

Excellent idea Mike... wait, let me wipe the brown stuff off my nose...
Okay, there, all clean.
In all seriousness, this should be here, and it should be in the rules one has to read when joining. I know Shawn will get some points 'cause he is always helping out. There aree many, many others here who will get points too. But the idea of being able to knock someone for being an a$$ is great. Then, if they continue being an a$$, by the time they have -10, they can no longer post a live link.
I really do like it! But, fo rit to be effective, all members here need to be PM'd and told to come to this thread. From then on out, all who join will either read about it, or not. Really, as long as the core group knows about it and utilizes it, it will work just fine.Matt Pellerin, A Phoenix Realtor

Thanks, Matt. I believe it will be good down the road. I have seen some crazy stuff on some forums though where someone receives a red one and spends all week trying to figgure out who it was.
You owe me some green on DP yo

I have never used the DP rep points...I don't even know how to use them. I think VB has enough features built into it that allow you to make a forum very usable (like blocking certain users from appearing for you, subscribing to certain forums, etc). I think the rep system is a good idea on paper, but can be abused and can make a forum more "clicky". DP is great and I really like a lot of the members there, but it is becomming very "noisy" over there. Kinda seems like everyone is focused on rep points and they are getting them for silly things. But, that is simply my old stubborn opinion.

It won't hurt to give it a try. If it turns out to be a bad idea or causes too much controversy it can always be shut off.

Well, I really liked it for the auto ability to shut someone down if they suck real bad. I don't really care if I have 1,000,000 rep points or 10, as long as I'm not shut down from posting an active link now and then.
Which brings in a good point, shouldn't someon have to have a certain amount of posts before they get to do any rep voting? Maybe 100 posts, or maybe start everyone with 0 points, -10 and they lose linking ability like you said, but after 100 posts they earn +10 automatically. That would bring them to 10 total as soon as they hit 100 posts.
I am sure now that I am thinking way to hard about this...Matt Pellerin, A Phoenix Realtor
